About Parallax

Satellites measure the height of almost every building in Britain, every few days, to the millimetre. That data is free and open, but almost impossible for a homeowner to read. Parallax makes it readable.

Why we built it

Subsidence is one of the most expensive problems a home can have, yet it usually stays invisible until cracks appear. Since 2014 the European Union’s Sentinel-1 radar satellites have been quietly recording ground movement across the whole of Europe. Scientists and large insurers use this data. Homeowners and buyers almost never see it.

Parallax closes that gap. Type a postcode and you get a plain-English answer, with the measurement, its uncertainty and where every number came from.

How we work

  • Honest numbers. Every result comes with its 95% range. If the satellites can’t measure a spot, we say so.
  • Calm, not alarming. Most homes are steady, and we tell you that plainly. We never say a home is “safe” or “unsafe”.
  • Open about method. Our method and its limits are published in full.
  • Not a survey. A movement result is a reason to ask a surveyor, never a diagnosis.
